A Coastwide program today will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was born Jan. 15, 1929.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 4528 15th St. in Gulfport. Keynote speaker will be Rev. James Orange, founder/chairman of Dr. Martin Luther King March/Africa/African American Renaissance, and soloist Lillian Lily of the Mississippi Mass Choir will sing.

On Monday, a parade will begin at 11 a.m. in Biloxi, with formation at 10 a.m. at the Howard Avenue Community Center. After the parade, the Battle of the Bands event will be held at Yankie Stadium in Biloxi.

These Biloxi and Gulfport events are presented by the Committee for Coastwide Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration and the city of Biloxi. Details: James Crowell at 326-7143."
